Steps to Complete Streets: Test and Verify

Paris is converting city center Carfree

Step 5. Influence Factors

Paris is removing cars from the city downtown and building a massive pedestrian zone, just as Time Square NYC did. As a public-outreach gesture the city is testing the actual street closure with more than a high-priced consultant workshop, they simply close the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and monitor public reaction. Plan, build, test and tweek, the simplified steps to a Complete Street.

  1. Great idea....unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, Laguna is just too small to pull off something like this. Even with all the talk about closing the first block off PCH of Forest Ave, I just can't see the City compounding the traffic problems we have by closing off any of the streets for pedestrians....at the same time, I don't see them doing anything to make traffic better either! Can you imagine when the Canyon widening is completed (20+ years)....more capacity to flood downtown and get bottle-necked at PCH. There's a saying. "Its going to get worse before it gets better...." well in this case, I think its only going to get worse!
